OUT THE CAP
a project for
The brief “Out The Cap” explores the intersection of Cappellini’s experimental design approach and Piero Lissoni’s minimalist sensibility through a luxury hospitality collection for the contract sector.
This project is centered on upscale hotel hospitality. With a focus on the outdoor, the hospitality industry is in search for the feeling of privacy. I decided to fit this project within the concept of the desert and its vast solitariness. To me, the desert epitomizes this idea of retreat and seclusion, and is the core theme seen throughout this project.
Inspired by the typology of the ‘Majlis’, which was popularized in the middle east.
The majlis is an ecosystem of items that can be arranged together in however system you would like.
Mostly used in outdoor settings, especially in sandy environments.
The chair is named Jalsa after the Arabic word “jalsa”, meaning ‘a sitting session’, Jalsa is a unit that combines the principles of a majlis and executed in a contemporary interpretation.
The tables are named Tabla, which references the middle eastern drum in shape and name.
